George Claypoole, Jr. was active as a cabinetmaker in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the second half of the eighteenth century. He was the son of George Claypoole, Sr. (1706-1793), also a cabinetmaker. See Hornor, William. Blue Book Philadelphia Furniture, p. 27. for more biographical information on both father and son. Gostelowe, an apprentice of George Claypoole, had set up a shop in Philadelphia by 1764. After serving in the Revolutionary War, he opened another establishment. He became one of Philadelphia's most respected craftsmen, leading the Gentlemen Cabinet and Chairmakers in the Grand Federal Procession of 1788.
